About Me
I’ve been an artist since I can remember. When I was very young, I noticed an open can of house paint in our garage and happily painted an old TV that resided there. When I was ten, I talked my parents into letting me use part of the basement as an art studio. Give me paint, and I am happy!
Since those early days, I’ve done all kinds of art-related work; advertising spark plugs, and children’s wear, designing logos and corporate stuff for the likes of Steelcase and Herman Miller, designing toys for Hasbro and Imaginarium and Illustrating magazines and children’s books for Holiday House Publishing.
I’ve learned a lot along the way, but the burning desire to paint has stuck with me.
So, here I am in Maplewood, New Jersey, just a short train ride to Manhattan. I’ve been painting full-time for about six years. In that time I’ve shown my work all over the country, and I’ve sold a few paintings, too. I’m grateful for each and every sale I’ve ever made.
I have an incredible husband named Matthew. He has a brilliant brain and warm heart, and supportive to no end. If you don’t know him already, you probably will soon. My daughters; Sadie 15, and Lily 11, are a constant source of inspiration and goodness in my life. Both are amazing artists; Sadie loves to make characters and cartoons, Lily has a keen eye. She dances, paints, draws invents designs you name it! And then there’s the pets; Polly, Trixie, Bozzie, Mitzie, Shale, Charlie (the Champion), Cinnamon, and Mary ( that’s; dog, cat, rat, rat, champion hamster, guinea pig, and fish, respectively.)
Well, that’s it for my unofficial biography. If you want to peruse the one I send to all the galleries and museums, just go to my Web site at www.nancytobin.com. There you can keep up-to-date on any shows and see new work, too!
